Lithology and Thickness

Grey to dark-grey limesone with interbeds of terrigenous and cherty sediments. Section in the upper course of the Mua River, about 800 m thick, has 4 members: (1) Black-grey, thin-bedded marly shale interbedded with limestone and clayey limestone; 190 m; containing corals of Favosites and other types. (2) Grey, thick-bedded small-grained limestone; 370 m; containing Amphipora sp. (branching stromatoporoids) (3) Grey, thin-bedded small-grained limestone interbedded with thick-bedded medium-grained crystallized limestone; 150 m; containing Amphipora sp. (4) Dark-grey small-grained limestone interbedded with light-grey medium-bedded limestone; 80 m thick; containing Amphipora sp.

Lithology Pattern:

Depositional setting

Thus, the vertical facies change and the succession of the Devonian sediments in the Ha Lang area (East Bac Bo) are clarified. The shallow-marine sediments containing benthic fauna of shelf facies characterize the lower parts of the Devonian sections, from the Mia Le Fm (early Devonian in East Bac Bo) to the top of the Ban Pap Gr. Upwards the deep-marine sediments containing pelagic fauna compose the Bang Ca Fm and most of the Toe Tat Fm, and then return to the shallow-marine sediments that characterize the Lower Carboniferous Lung Nam Fm.
